Description
A particularly strong vintage Polo Sport Ralph Lauren piece combining the proportions of an oversized work shirt with the heavier construction and utility detailing of a lightweight shirt jacket.
Made in washed black fabric with substantial natural fading throughout, the piece has developed the soft charcoal-black variation associated with well-aged cotton sportswear. The colouring is especially pronounced around the collar, seams, pockets and cuffs, giving the garment considerably more depth than a flat black overshirt.
The defining feature is the bright red half-length front zip, which provides a sharp contrast against the faded black body and gives the shirt a recognisable 1990s/early-2000s Polo Sport aesthetic. The zip terminates below the chest rather than running through the hem, retaining the structure of a pullover shirt.
Two large chest utility pockets sit either side of the zip. One is an open patch pocket, while the other uses a shaped buttoned flap and carries a small Polo Sport U.S. Pat. Off. woven tab. Other details include a pointed spread collar, button-adjustable cuffs, side vents and a gently curved shirttail-style hem.
The proportions are excellent for contemporary styling: 65cm chest, 52cm shoulders and an unusually long 82cm body. It works particularly well worn loose with wide-leg denim, cargos or fatigues, or layered over a T-shirt as a lightweight outer layer.
The garment remains in excellent vintage condition. Age-related fading is visible throughout, with slight discolouration around the collar and a very faint mark near the lower front hem. These do not detract from the overall presentation and the washed finish is a major part of the piece’s appearance.

Excellent vintage condition overall. The black fabric shows attractive, consistent fading and wash variation throughout, particularly around the seams, collar, cuffs and pockets. Slight discolouration is present around the neck/collar area, together with a very faint mark toward the lower front hem. Hardware remains functional and the garment presents very well for its age.

This shirt sits firmly in that tradition: familiar Ralph Lauren work-shirt details are exaggerated through an oversized pullover construction, large utility pockets and the contrasting sportswear-style zip.
