Every garment is measured flat in centimetres before listing. Tagged sizes can vary between brands, countries and eras, so listed measurements should be treated as the main sizing guide.

How we measure different garments

Different product types need different measurements. The guides below show the main points we use when checking tops, outerwear, trousers and denim.

Tops & Outerwear

Shirts, sweats, tees and jackets

These are the core measurements used for most upper-body garments.

Pit to pit Measured across the chest from underarm to underarm.

Length Measured from the highest shoulder point to the hem.

Shoulder width Measured across the back from shoulder seam to shoulder seam.

Sleeve length Measured from the shoulder seam to the sleeve end.

Hem width Measured flat across the bottom opening.

Trousers & Denim

Jeans, trousers and work pants

These are the main measurements used for lower-body garments.

Waist Measured flat across the waistband.

Rise Measured from the crotch seam to the top of the waistband.

Inseam Measured from the crotch seam to the leg opening.

Thigh width Measured flat across the thigh.

Hem opening Measured flat across the leg opening.

The following size bands are a guide only. Vintage, Japanese, European and American sizing can vary significantly. Please use the listed measurements as the main guide and compare them with a similar garment you already own.

All measurements below are shown in centimetres. These bands are indicative only. The final recommended size on each product page is based on the garment’s full measurements, cut and intended fit.
