Description
Original-generation PORTER TANKER Short Helmet Bag in black. This is the larger hand-carried version of PORTER’s military-inspired helmet bag format, designed for documents, work equipment and everyday essentials.
The bag has a full-width metal top zip and two large front utility pockets. Each exterior pocket is protected by an upper flap and secured using a combination of press-stud and hook-and-loop fastenings. Short padded handles provide a comfortable hand carry. This model was not designed as a 2-way shoulder bag and no shoulder strap is required or included.
Inside is the signature Rescue Orange nylon taffeta lining associated with PORTER TANKER. The interior includes three organiser pockets, including a smoke-tinted transparent section that allows smaller contents to remain visible. The official later version was designed to hold B4 documents and weighs approximately 460g when empty.
The original TANKER material was developed around the appearance and construction of the MA-1 flight jacket. It uses a lightweight three-layer structure comprising nylon twill on the exterior, polyester cotton bonding through the middle and nylon taffeta on the reverse. Aluminium zips and intentionally ageing metal hardware are characteristic details of the original series.
The later 622-78331 version retailed in Japan for ¥24,200 including tax. Because this appears to be an earlier-production example, its exact retail price at the original time of sale may have been different.
This example remains in very good pre-owned condition overall. The exterior is clean and structurally sound, and the PORTER label remains clear. There is a faint tonal mark on the rear panel, light interior marking and some wear around the orange-edged openings of the front pockets.

Very good pre-owned condition overall. The black nylon body remains clean and structurally sound, with no visible holes, major tears or significant seam separation.
The PORTER logo patch remains clearly legible and does not show obvious scratching or heavy marking. The handles appear secure, and the main zip, front press studs and visible hook-and-loop fastenings are present.
There is a faint tonal mark on the rear exterior panel. Light signs of use are visible inside the main compartment and across the transparent organiser section. The orange-edged openings of the two front pockets show light abrasion, fuzzing and minor fraying consistent with previous use.

About the Brand
Yoshida & Co. was founded in Tokyo in 1935 by Kichizo Yoshida. PORTER was introduced as the company’s principal bag label in 1962, with the name referring to professional luggage porters. The TANKER series followed in 1983 and became one of the company’s defining product lines.
TANKER was conceived around the MA-1 flight jacket and became known for its soft bonded nylon construction, military-influenced utility details and contrasting Rescue Orange interior. Yoshida substantially redeveloped the series in 2024 using newly developed plant-derived nylon, meaning this bag belongs to the earlier, now-discontinued generation of TANKER production.
