Description

An exceptionally well-preserved early production PORTER × orgabits Denim Daypack Rigid in dark indigo navy.

Originally catalogued as the ORGABITS DENIM DAY PACK RIGID under product number 381-05587, this design is now represented within PORTER’s JEAN series. This earlier example is distinguished by its red PORTER TOKYO interior label, CANTON Fabric Sanforized label and original handle construction.

The outer is made from textured 9oz nep denim woven with indigo-dyed uneven warp yarn and an organic cotton weft. The denim has a firm, untreated appearance that is designed to develop individual fading and vertical texture through continued use. Natural tan cowhide reinforces the top handle while cream webbing and an unbleached cotton canvas interior create a strong contrast against the indigo exterior.

The backpack has a clean everyday shape with a two-way zip opening, a large projecting front compartment, an internal pocket and a padded mesh rear panel. Its main compartment accommodates A4 documents and everyday essentials without the bulk of a large travel backpack. The official model specification records a 16 litre capacity and a weight of approximately 645 grams.

This example remains remarkably close to its original appearance. The indigo is dark and consistent, the cream components remain clean and the leather handle shows very little patina. It is a particularly strong example for a buyer seeking an earlier Japanese PORTER denim design rather than the later production currently available through international retailers.

Condition

Grade A

Grading type: Standard

Exceptionally well-preserved pre-owned condition with very little visible wear. The rigid indigo denim remains dark and even with minimal fading. The cream webbing, leather-wrapped handle, rear mesh panel and interior canvas are all extremely clean.

There are no visible holes, tears, frayed sections, open seams or structural damage. The PORTER patch, red PORTER TOKYO label, CANTON label and branded metal hardware remain in excellent condition.

Minor signs of previous handling are limited to light storage creasing, negligible surface wear and a few extremely faint marks inside. The small flecks visible throughout the cream interior appear consistent with the natural character of the unbleached canvas rather than widespread staining.

Visible Flaws

No significant flaws. Light storage creasing and negligible signs of previous handling only.

About the Brand

PORTER is the principal bag label of Japanese maker Yoshida & Co. The brand is known for practical compartment layouts, durable construction and bags produced with close attention to materials, hardware and daily functionality.

This daypack was developed through PORTER’s work with orgabits, an organic cotton project established in Japan to encourage wider use of organic cotton across commercially accessible products. The orgabits approach allows organic cotton to be blended into practical products rather than limiting production to fully organic materials.

The CANTON Fabric Sanforized label references the heritage denim used within this early production. Its combination of Japanese bag construction, indigo denim, unbleached canvas and natural leather gives the daypack a strong workwear influence while retaining PORTER’s familiar functional layout.
