Description
The Wool Tartan Check Kakashi Shirt is one of KAPITAL’s distinctive open front layers. Its shape draws from Japanese haori and work robe construction rather than conventional Western tailoring.
A saturated red tartan runs throughout the body and sleeves. Dark green, navy and black lines break through the red ground, with finer cream and yellow threads adding definition to the check. The open front falls naturally into a soft lapel shape without buttons or other fastenings.
The jacket is made in Japan from 100% wool, with 100% cotton used for the secondary construction details. It is unlined and finished with two concealed interior patch pockets accessed from the sides. Straight cuffs, a clean hem and small side openings complete the Kakashi shape.
Product code K1710LS848 places the piece around KAPITAL’s 2017 to 2018 period. The model was stocked internationally as part of the FW18 range. Its original Japanese retail price was ¥23,980, while American retailer La Garçonne listed it at US$370.
The tagged size 4 would normally translate to a KAPITAL Large. This example measures substantially smaller through the shoulders and sleeves. Its 42 cm shoulder is the most important sizing point and makes it better suited to a men’s Small or Medium. The 57 cm chest and open front provide more room through the body, while the 70 cm length gives it a noticeably longer silhouette.

About the Brand
KAPITAL emerged from Kojima in Okayama Prefecture, one of the centres of Japanese denim production. Founder Toshikiyo Hirata established the business after developing an interest in American denim and vintage clothing during time spent in the United States.
The label expanded considerably after his son Kiro Hirata joined in the early 2000s. Kiro brought a more experimental design approach to the company’s established knowledge of denim, workwear and Japanese manufacturing.
KAPITAL is now recognised for combining vintage American references with Japanese clothing traditions. Its collections move between denim, military clothing, workwear, traditional robe shapes, patchwork and unusual seasonal designs. The Kakashi shirt is a recurring KAPITAL silhouette, using the simplicity of an open Japanese outer layer as the starting point for different materials and patterns.
