Description
The PORTER TANKER Shoulder Bag is one of the most recognisable designs from Japanese luggage and accessories specialist Yoshida & Co.
Originally introduced in 1983, the TANKER collection draws inspiration from the MA-1 flight jackets worn by the United States Air Force. Its distinctive three-layer fabric construction combines a durable nylon twill exterior, lightweight polyester padding and nylon taffeta lining, creating a soft, lightweight and highly functional bag.
This compact shoulder bag reflects the utilitarian design philosophy that has made PORTER internationally respected. Combining military-inspired detailing with considered Japanese craftsmanship, it features multiple zipped compartments, practical front storage pockets, adjustable carrying options and distinctive metal hardware.
The understated design makes it equally suited to contemporary streetwear, Japanese heritage clothing and everyday casual styling.
Despite its compact proportions, the bag offers practical storage for daily essentials, including a phone, wallet, keys, travel documents and smaller accessories.
This particular example is presented in exceptionally clean pre-owned condition. The internal compartments appear barely used, displaying almost no visible marks, scuffs or blemishes. All zips operate perfectly, the hook-and-loop fastenings remain in excellent condition and the original internal PORTER label is exceptionally well preserved.
The external metal hardware, including the snap fasteners, also presents extremely well. The only specifically identified imperfection is a minor loose thread along the border of the exterior PORTER logo patch, which otherwise remains in near-perfect condition.
An outstanding example of an iconic Japanese utility bag, offering the craftsmanship, practical functionality and enduring design for which PORTER is internationally recognised.

About the Brand
Founded in Tokyo in 1935 by Kichizo Yoshida, Yoshida & Co. is one of Japan’s most respected luggage and accessories manufacturers.
The company established the PORTER brand in 1962, taking its name from hotel porters whose daily handling of luggage informed the importance of practical, durable and thoughtfully constructed bags.
Guided by the philosophy Ichishin Nyukon, meaning to put one’s heart and soul into every stitch, Yoshida & Co. has maintained a longstanding commitment to Japanese manufacturing and exceptional craftsmanship.
The introduction of the TANKER collection in 1983 established one of the company’s most influential product lines. Inspired by American military flight jackets, its padded nylon construction, functional storage and distinctive detailing became defining characteristics of the PORTER identity.
Today, PORTER remains highly regarded internationally, occupying an important position within Japanese menswear, heritage fashion and contemporary streetwear.
