Product Details
Description
A distinctive vintage utility jacket drawn from the French bleu de travail workwear tradition. This example moves away from the familiar three-pocket chore coat with a shorter blouson-style shape, concealed button closure and a symmetrical pair of buttoned chest pockets.
The front is finished with two lower side-entry pockets that sit neatly within the body of the jacket. Elasticated cuffs create a slightly gathered sleeve shape, while the straight collar and structured hem keep the overall shape simple and functional. Dark buttons provide subtle contrast against the rich blue twill.
The jacket retains a strong blue colour throughout. Mild fading is visible around the collar, pocket edges, cuffs and other high-contact areas. This gradual tonal variation reflects its original working life without overwhelming the overall appearance.
There are no surviving brand, size or composition labels. The exact maker, country of manufacture, age and material composition cannot be confirmed. Its colour, construction and practical details are consistent with vintage European and French workwear.

About the Brand
French workwear developed around practical clothing made for tradespeople, factory workers and agricultural use. Blue work jackets became widely known as bleu de travail, translating directly as “work blue.”
Original examples were made for repeated use rather than seasonal fashion. Straightforward construction, accessible pockets and durable twill materials were central to the style. Years of use gave individual jackets their own fading and surface variation.
The original manufacturer of this jacket is unknown because its labels are no longer present. It is offered for its construction, colour and connection to the wider French workwear tradition rather than attribution to a particular maker.
