Description

A particularly clean vintage Burberrys long-sleeve shirt from the brand’s pre-1999 era, finished in an understated oversized check across a muted khaki-olive base.

The check combines deep burgundy, cream, pale sage and brown lines, giving the shirt a more restrained appearance than the brighter traditional Burberry check associated with later pieces. The fabric is 100% cotton with a tightly woven twill structure and subtle surface lustre, producing an almost silky appearance while retaining the feel and practicality of cotton.

The shirt has a classic pointed collar, full button front, single patch chest pocket, buttoned cuffs, rear shoulder yoke with pleating and a curved shirttail hem. The long 79cm body gives it the proportions of vintage shirting rather than a cropped contemporary cut.

The neck carries the older Burberrys REGD. woven label together with a Medium size tag. The Japanese care label records style/reference number WS046-142-45, while the secondary C-TK83 code is associated with Sanyo Shokai’s licensed Burberry production for the Japanese market.

Condition is exceptionally strong for its age. The fabric, collar, cuffs, buttons, labels and stitching all present very cleanly, with no notable stains, holes, tears or other flaws visible in the supplied photographs.

A strong vintage designer shirt that works particularly well with loose black trousers, washed denim, military trousers or under relaxed outerwear.

About the Brand

Founded in Britain in 1856, Burberry developed into one of the defining names in British outerwear and luxury clothing. Earlier garments frequently carry the “Burberrys” name seen on this shirt; Burberry officially shortened the company name from Burberrys to Burberry in 1999 as part of its wider repositioning into a global luxury fashion house.

This piece also belongs to the Japanese licensed Burberry ecosystem. The C-TK83 code appearing on its label is widely associated with Sanyo Shokai, Burberry’s long-running Japanese licensee, and appears across surviving Japanese-market Burberrys garments from the period.
