Description
The North Face Purple Label 65/35 Big Mountain Parka, model NP2201N, presented in the tonal Black × Black colourway.
Developed as a larger and more contemporary interpretation of Purple Label’s standard NP2051N Mountain Parka, the NP2201N retains the functional identity of classic 1970s outdoor clothing while introducing a substantially wider body, dropped shoulders and a rounded oversized silhouette. Nanamica described the design as approximately 15 cm wider through the body than the regular model.
The outer is made from Purple Label’s signature 65/35 Bayhead Cloth, combining 65% polyester with 35% cotton. The tightly woven shell has a smooth, lightly structured surface and was originally treated with a water-repellent finish. It offers more substance than a lightweight nylon shell while remaining suitable for transitional weather and everyday layering.
The front features four large pleated cargo pockets with concealed snap closures. A TALON zip sits beneath a full snap-fastened storm placket, while the high protective neckline flows into a fixed hood with oversized circular cord stoppers. Additional details include adjustable snap cuffs, logo-branded press studs, an internal waist adjustment and a practical internal zipped pocket.
The Black × Black edition uses tonal black components throughout, including the shell, lining, zipper, snaps and cord hardware. The interior combines recycled 50-denier polyester ripstop with recycled polyester taffeta carrying a subtle tonal The North Face logo pattern.
Its large dimensions make it suitable for layering over sweatshirts, knitwear or lighter jackets. The understated black finish gives the highly functional four-pocket design a cleaner appearance than brighter traditional outdoor colourways.
Originally released in Japan at ¥38,500 including tax.

About the Brand
The North Face Purple Label is a Japanese line developed through nanamica and The North Face under Goldwin. Launched in the early 2000s under the direction of nanamica founder Eiichiro Homma, the line reworks The North Face’s outdoor archive through contemporary Japanese proportions, specialised materials and designs intended to work equally well in urban and outdoor settings.
Purple Label is particularly recognised for its reinterpretations of heritage The North Face products. Classic mountain parkas, field jackets and down pieces are frequently updated with oversized cuts, muted colours, unusual textiles and more refined construction while retaining practical outdoor details.
