The PORTER SMOKY Rucksack 592-07576 is an earlier-generation Japanese-made backpack from one of Yoshida & Co.’s most recognisable everyday bag series.

The design combines a traditional drawstring rucksack construction with the functional detailing associated with PORTER. The main compartment sits beneath a broad shaped flap secured by an adjustable centre strap, while two oversized front utility pockets create the distinctive military-inspired front profile. Each front pocket uses dual snap closures, with additional hook-and-loop fastening beneath the flaps.

A full-length metal zipper at the side provides convenient access to the main compartment without needing to open the top of the bag. Inside is an additional zipped compartment for smaller essentials. Adjustable shoulder straps and a top grab handle complete the design.

The defining element of the SMOKY series is PORTER’s proprietary Cordura Duck material. The construction combines 1000-denier Zimbabwe cotton uneven yarn through the warp with 1000-denier Cordura nylon through the weft. The two fibres absorb dye differently, creating the slightly faded charcoal or sumi-black colour associated with black SMOKY pieces rather than a flat jet-black appearance.

At approximately 12 litres, the 592-07576 is compact enough for everyday use while the wide main compartment and external storage provide significantly more utility than its dimensions suggest.

This example is particularly clean. The exterior presents with very little evidence of wear, retaining strong structure, clean straps, pockets and hardware. The only notable condition point identified is very minor internal fraying around an interior seam. No significant exterior staining, holes or structural damage were identified from inspection.

Yoshida & Co. is a Japanese bag manufacturer established in 1935 and built around the company’s longstanding Ichishin Nyukon philosophy — broadly, putting one’s full spirit into every stitch. SMOKY is one of PORTER’s long-running series and centres on the company’s original Cordura Duck material, combining the natural appearance of cotton with the strength and subtle lustre of Cordura nylon. Yoshida describes the result as a meeting of traditional and technical material construction.
