The Mountain Wind Pants reinterpret one of The North Face’s best-known 1990s mountain trouser designs for everyday wear. Released for Spring/Summer 2019 under product code NP5851N, this black version uses 50-denier polyester ripstop across the upper and lower legs.

Matte Taslan polyester taffeta reinforces the knees. It creates a subtle tonal contrast while retaining the all-black appearance. The leg has a relaxed upper section before narrowing towards the elasticated cuffs.

Practical details run throughout the design. The gathered waistband is adjusted using a long drawcord with metal end caps. A zip fly and snap fastening provide additional security. Black mesh lines the interior for increased airflow.

Each ankle has a gusseted zipper opening. This allows the hem to open over boots or wider footwear while retaining the narrow cuff when closed. Storage includes two slanted front pockets and two rear pockets secured with branded snap closures.

Branding is deliberately understated. A tonal embroidered half-dome logo sits across the left knee panel. A small purple woven label appears above the rear right pocket, with the larger purple “made possible by nanamica” label inside the waistband.

The North Face Purple Label is the Japan-focused line created with nanamica. Since its introduction in 2003, the label has revisited The North Face archive through a Japanese menswear perspective.

Classic outdoor references are combined with restrained colours, practical construction and silhouettes designed for daily use. Distribution has remained centred on Japan, making discontinued models such as the NP5851N Mountain Wind Pants less common in Australia and other international markets.
