Product Details
Description
A lightweight Burberry London short-sleeve shirt produced for the Japanese market during the Sanyo Shokai licensed era.
The shirt uses an oversized check in muted lavender, pale grey and off-white, giving the traditional Burberry check-shirt format a softer summer palette. The fabric has a lightly textured, slubbed appearance and an airy hand, with natural surface variation visible through the weave.
Construction is straightforward and wearable: a pointed collar, full button front, short sleeves and a single patch pocket at the chest secured by a branded-style four-hole button. The larger-scale check continues across the front, sleeves and back rather than relying on obvious external logos.
The Japanese internal label identifies Sanyo Shokai Co., Ltd., the long-standing Japanese Burberry licensee, alongside Made in Vietnam production and reference 01488-01 ETE.
The care label also states that the garment was washed after construction, explaining that minor dimensional variation, twisting, creasing and irregularity around seams can occur as part of the finishing process. This is relevant to the naturally relaxed appearance of the shirt rather than indicating damage.
Condition is excellent overall. The shirt retains good shape, clean stitching and a tidy collar, pocket and button placket. All buttons are present. There is very light surface pilling that should be removed before dispatch; otherwise no significant stains, holes or damage are visible in the supplied photographs.
A particularly good warm-weather Burberry piece for wearing with washed denim, relaxed trousers or shorts.

About the Brand
Burberry is the British fashion house founded in 1856 and internationally associated with outerwear, tailoring and its signature check patterns.
This shirt comes from a distinct chapter of the brand’s Japanese history. Burberry operated in Japan for decades through licensing agreements with Sanyo Shokai and Mitsui. Under this arrangement, Sanyo developed and distributed Burberry apparel specifically for the Japanese market. Burberry later moved Japan toward a directly operated global model, and the Sanyo apparel licence expired in June 2015. Burberry London menswear and womenswear produced under the arrangement concluded with the Spring/Summer 2015 season.
That places this example firmly within the pre-2015 Sanyo Shokai Burberry London period, although the exact production season cannot be confirmed from the supplied labels.
